The “Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation (SGSF)” has made a 14-point demand, including exemplary punishment for all the accused in the case filed over the Rana Plaza tragedy.

They have also demanded the suspension of bail granted to Rana Plaza owner Sohail Rana in the murder case.

The leaders of the organizations made the demands during a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday.

Nazma Akhter, president of the federation, said thousands of people lost their lives during the Rana Plaza tragedy in 2013.

“Thousands of workers are living an inhumane life due to their injuries from the incident. Among them, at least 1,000 workers are living with disabilities,” she added.

She further said: “This tragic accident not only shook Bangladesh but the whole world. The incident sparked nationwide outrage against building owner Sohail Rana, five garment owners, and the government. The government filed three cases under different laws, which have not seen the light of day even in the last 10 years.”

Some of the demands include imposing the maximum punishment to all accused in cases filed over the Rana plaza incident, revoking bail granted to Sohel Rana, ensuring proper treatment, employment, and rehabilitation of injured workers, making minimum wage of workers Tk23,000, and more.
