Govt interested in undertaking short project on hydrogen fuel

Nasrul Hamid describes Japan as a tested friend of Bangladesh during his meeting with a senior Jica official

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has expressed Bangladesh's interest in going for a short project on hydrogen fuel, in a move aimed at reducing fossil fuel use. 

“We would like to take a short project on hydrogen fuel. There is also an opportunity to work together on increasing energy efficiency,” he said when Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) Executive Senior Vice President Yamada Junichi paid a courtesy call on him at his ministry office at the Secretariat on Thursday.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues related to mutual interest, reports UNB.

The Jica executive senior vice president said the progress of ongoing projects, including the implementation of the Matarbari power plant, was satisfactory.

“There are opportunities to work together on advanced technology, gas meters and the capacity building of the Bangladesh Power Management Institute.”

The state minister thanked the Jica official for the financing and cooperation of his organization in various projects in the power and energy sector.

He described Japan as a tested friend of Bangladesh.

He also discussed the issue of cooperation on the transition towards carbon neutrality, capacity building of the power and electricity sector, modernization of the gas pipeline system, prepaid gas meters, gas pipeline extension and underground sub-station projects.

He said the importance of renewable energy was getting increased focus in the global context.
