The Awami League's candidate for this month's Dhaka-17 by-election, Mohammad A Arafat, has said if the election environment is fair, no one can stop the victory of boat, the electoral symbol of the party.
The Awami League candidate made the statement while carrying out his election campaign in the ECB Chattar area of the capital at 10am on Thursday.
“We are all members of the larger Awami League family. Our job is to go to the voters and motivate them to come to the polling station. They are ready to vote for boat. They will cast their votes for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Elections are being held, but our bigger political fight is the fight against the evil forces against independence and Liberation War. Our fight is against those who want to destroy Bangladesh and its electoral system. What we have decided is that we want a large number of voters to appear at the polling stations in the Dhaka-17 by-election,” said Arafat.
“We want to ensure victory against anti-independence forces,” he added.
He also said the Awami League has always been defeated by conspiracies as the people could never be made to stand against the party.
“Whenever the Awami League has been defeated, Bangladesh has gone backwards. Whenever the Awami League has won, Bangladesh has moved forward, we have moved forward,” he added further.
The by-election to the Dhaka-17 constituency will be held on July 17 through ballot papers.
