Hanif: BNP not being able to come out of its characteristics

  • BNP obstructed movement of general people
  • BNP attacked police
  • Govt will deal with iron hands
Update : 31 Jul 2023, 08:19 AM

The opposition BNP could not rectify itself as its supporters clashed with the police and torched buses during Saturday's sit-in program in Dhaka, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif has said.

Their anarchic and terrorist activities will be dealt with iron hand like the before, he said while distributing cheques among journalists in front of his Kushtia residence on Sunday. The financial aid was provided by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Hanif said that the people thought the BNP would learn from its mistakes and come out of terrorist activities. But it was not to be. They obstructed the movement of the general people in the capital and attacked the police. They also set fire to vehicles, he continued.

The government will deal with iron hands if such activities continue, he warned.

In a rare instance, BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was seen having lunch with the chief of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Mohammad Harunor Rashid, in a video shared on Saturday.

On the other hand, Amanullah Aman was admitted to National Heart Institute Hospital in Dhaka after he fell ill when police picked him up at Gabtoli. Later, at the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her Assistant Private Secretary-2 Gazi Hafizur Rahman visited Aman at the hospital.

Mentioning the two incidents as civil and courteous gestures, Hanif said the BNP leaders do not know such courtesy therefore they are now terming the gestures as dramas.
