The water level of the Teesta River in Nilphamari point was close to the danger level while in Lalmonirhat it was 3cm below the danger mark on Wednesday.
The Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Padma rivers are on a rising trend, which may continue in the next 48 hours, said the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) in its latest bulletin.
On the other hand, the Ganges River is in a steady state which may continue on Thursday, it added.
Except for the Kushiyara, all the rivers in the North-Eastern region of the country are in a rising trend which may continue in the next 24 hours. According to meteorological agencies, there is a chance of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the northern part of the country and adjoining upstream regions of India in the next 24 hours. Therefore, the Teesta, the Dharala and the Dudhkumar rivers in these regions may rise rapidly at times during these periods.
Local people in Nilphamari said that flood water has entered in different upazilas and at least 15 villages were inundated in Purba Chhatnai, Poshchim Chhatnai, Tepakhbari, Khalisha Chapani, Jhunagachh, Goyabari, Khogakhribari union parishads.
The Bangladesh Meteorology Department (BMD) predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers in different parts of the country on Thursday.
"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Chittagong divisions,” it said.
