Freight train derailment halts services from Kamalapur Railway Station

Traffic between Moghbazar and Mohakhali has been halted

A Chittagong freight train has derailed in the Kawran Bazar area of the capital, disrupting train services from Kamalapur Railway Station.

The incident took place at 12pm on Friday.

Witnesses said traffic from Moghbazar to Mohakhali had been halted due to the derailment.

Railway workers on the spot could not give an estimate of how long it would take to fix the train line.

Assistant Commissioner Md Refatul Islam of Ramna Traffic zone said three bogies of the Dhaka-bound train had derailed. 

“We are letting the vehicles drive on the flyover now. According to the railways, it may take another two hours to fix the lines,” he added.

3 killed in separate train accidents

Three people were killed on Thursday in separate train accidents at different areas of Dhaka.

All three of their bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy on Friday.

Police recovered a 24-year-old’s body on Thursday night near Shoinik Club area at Banani.

He was killed after being hit by a Kamalapur-bound Sonar Bangla Express, Dhaka Medical College police camp Sub Inspector (SI) Saqlain confirmed.

Police recovered another unidentified body from Karwan Bazar area on Thursday night, SI Riaz Mahmud said.

In another incident, a man died while talking on phone near Karwan Bazar Kathpotti area on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Monsur Helal, 25. He used to work at a private firm in Dhaka.
