DSCC Mayor: Buses without route-permit won’t be allowed

Taposh requests the police not to spare anyone who would try to drive buses without route permits

Update : 20 Feb 2022, 10:47 AM

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Sunday said no buses would be allowed to ply the city streets without route permit.

He made the declaration while addressing the inaugural function of Dhaka Nagar Paribahan Bus Service in the city's Mohammadpur Bus Stand.

The bus service - from Ghatarchar to Kanchpur under one authority - was formally launched on Sunday with an effort to restore discipline in public transport on the city streets.

On the route, 50 brand new-green-coloured buses will run on a trial basis.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the bus service virtually from the secretariat while the DSCC mayor presided over the program.

Speaking on the occasion, Taposh, also the Bus Routes Rationalization Committee (BRRC) convener, requested the police not to spare anyone who would try to drive buses without route permits.

“All buses will have to ply according to their respective routes. All buses in Dhaka will have to come under the purview of bus route rationalization in phases,” he added.

He said now 50 buses have been provided from Ghatarchar to Kanchpur in Narayanganj and another 50 buses will be added soon.

“The number of buses will be increased in future considering the demand of passengers,” he continued.

He said from now, all passengers have to collect tickets from the designated counters to ride into the buses. “Passengers cannot be transported without tickets,” he added.

Dedicating this new beginning of bus route rationalization to the late Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Annisul Huq, Taposh said that Huq dreamt of launching public transport through bus route rationalization or company.

Incumbent DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, MP Sadek Khan, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Chairman Md Tazul Islam, Dhaka Transport Co-ordination Authority (DTCA) Executive Director Neelima Akhter, and Bangladesh Road Transport Owners' Association Secretary General Khandaker Enayet Ullah were also present, among others, at the event.
