Suspected drug dealer falls to death in escape attempt

A young man died after he jumped from the roof of abandoned building in attempt to flee police in the Bahaddarhat area of Chittagong city on early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Munna, 24, son of late Anwar Hossain of Harun Chairman's house in the Bahaddarhat Ghaibi Mosque area of Chittagong.

Chadgaon police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mainur Rahman said police received a tip-off and raided an abandoned building behind Bahaddarhat Jamuna Bank around 2am on Sunday.

During the raid, police saw three suspected drug dealers jump off the building. Two of them escaped but Munna was seriously injured.

Police rushed the injured man to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

As many as 622 yaba pills and various drug using equipment were recovered from the building. The body was kept at CMCH for autopsy, the OC added.
