A university student has been killed after a trailer truck hit his motorbike in Dhaka late on Friday.

Twenty-one-year-old Mahadi Hossain Limon was a Textile Engineering student of the Green University, said police.

The accident took place around 11.45pm on Friday near Kawla on the Airport Road, said Sub-inspector Asaduzzaman Sheikh of the Airport Police Station.

A severely injured Mahadi was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead around 1:45am on Saturday, said the police officer before adding the trailer truck has been seized.

Mahadi was returning to his home in Kamarpara near the Uttara Model Town after visiting a relative in the capital’s Jigatola area, according to his uncle Imam Hasan.

The death of the university student in a road crash comes amid students across the capital demonstrating for road safety following the deaths of a Notre Dame College student at Gulistan on November 24 and another student, who took the SSC exams this year, on November 29 at Rampura.
