Bodies of five fishermen were recovered on Friday, five days after their trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Charfesson upazila in Bhola.
Six other fishermen, who managed to survive after drifting at sea for five days, are currently receiving medical treatment at Charfesson Upazila Health Complex.
Two fishermen still remain unaccounted for, and a search is underway to locate them.
The bodies were recovered around 1pm from the Bay of Bengal on Friday, confirmed Md Ripon, a local fish trader.
However, Charfesson police station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Ripon Kumar Saha said that the recovered bodies had not yet arrived at the police station as of early afternoon.
According to local fish trader Md Ripon, the injured, deceased, and missing fishermen all hail from Charfesson.
Despite the prohibition on fishing in the sea, these fishermen had ventured out to catch fish, evading the eyes of the administration, he added.
As per sources from Samraj Fish Market, on June 25, 13 fishermen had gone out to fish in the Bay of Bengal with a trawler.
The trawler sank due to rough sea conditions the following day, and all 13 fishermen were reported missing.
On Thursday morning, two fishermen washed ashore at a char in Monpura, after which they were rescued and admitted to Charfesson Upazila Health Complex.
Four more fishermen reached Charfesson on Friday morning and were also rescued and admitted to the same health complex.
Local fishermen and traders then went to the Bay of Bengal with a trawler and reported recovering five bodies around 1pm. Communication has since been cut off due to network issues.
OC Ripon Kumar Saha and the district police control room have confirmed that police have visited the six rescued fishermen at the health complex.
Police are attempting to gather more information about the incident from them, added the OC.
Ripon Kumar Saha further said that the police will maintain communication with the Coast Guard regarding the missing fishermen, as their relatives and fellow traders have initiated a search for them.
