The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) members arrested the new militant group Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya's founder Shamin Mahfuz and his wife on Friday night.
They were arrested from the capital's Demra area around 10pm, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police KN Roy Niyati confirmed it to the media.
A significant quantity of weapons and explosives were seized from the arrested individuals, he said.
Information regarding Shamin's arrest will be revealed at a press conference on Saturday afternoon, he added.
