Health Minister: Licenses of 45 pharmaceutical companies cancelled in 14yrs

DGDA temporarily cancels or cancels the production license of the company producing adulterated and low-quality drugs, as well as suspends the production and marketing, he says

Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that the licenses of 45 pharmaceutical (allopathic) companies have been revoked since the current government came to power for the first term in 2009 till 2023.

The minister gave this information in response to the question of Didarul Alam, a member of parliament of the government party, in the question and answer session of the National Parliament on Wednesday. 

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury chaired the question and answer table.

He said: “The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) temporarily cancels or cancels the production license of the company producing adulterated and low-quality drugs, as well as suspends the production and marketing. All measures taken by the drug administration from time to time are publicized or published in the form of detailed advertisements in national dailies.”

In response to Didarul Alam's question, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said: “At present, the number of HIV patients identified in Bangladesh is 9,708. Among them, 6,075 people are under treatment and 1,820 people died.”

In response to Jatiya Party member of parliament Masiur Rahman Ranga's question, the health minister said that there are 902 factories manufacturing allopathic, herbal, unani, ayurvedic and homeopathic national medicines across the country. Among those, there are 301 allopathic national drug factories.
