The death toll in the rice mill boiler explosion in Gopalganj rose to two as an injured girl succumbed to her injuries at Khulna Medical College Hospital Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased is Romana, 11.
Romana's brother Mostakim, 5, is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
A boiler explosion took place at Manorama Rice Mill in Haridaspur Feri Ghat area of Gopalganj Sadar upazila around 5:30am on Tuesday. The child's father Noor Islam Molla died on the spot.
Gopalganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Javed Masud confirmed the information, adding that after the post-mortem examination, the child was buried next to the grave of her father Noor Islam Molla.
No complaint has been lodged with the police from the victim's family so far in this incident. However, the police officer said that the police will investigate and take legal action.
Noor Islam Molla's wife Nipa Begum, 25, has been working for a long time in that rice mill. On Monday night, Nipa slept in the room next to the boiler of the rice mill with her two children and her husband. When the rice mill's boiler suddenly exploded on Tuesday morning, the wall of the house broke and fell on Noor Islam and his children leaving Noor Islam dead on the spot.
On receiving the information, a unit of Gopalganj Fire Service rescued them with the help of locals. Two injured children Romana, 11, and Mostakim, 5, were admitted to Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital. When their condition worsened, they were shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Noor Islam Molla's body was buried at the village house on Tuesday after post-mortem.
