Primeasia University celebrated 'Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti Utsab' in a colourful manner through song, dance and recitation on Tuesday morning.
The birth anniversary of the two eminent poets, the pride of Bengali, was celebrated at the IQAC conference hall of Primeasia University, Banani Star Tower, said a press release on Wednesday.
Renowned Professor Hosne Ara Begum from Jagannath University's Bengali Department took centre stage as the main speaker.
Primeasia University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Md Nurunnabi Mollah, added significance to the event, with him presiding over the proceedings. University Registrar Brigadier General (Retd.) Kazi ASM Arif graced the occasion as special guest.
Prof Dr Shuvomoy Dutta, Dean of Science Faculty, delivered a warm welcome speech to commence the festivities.
Keynote Speaker Professor Dr Hosne Ara Begum's speech resonated with the audience, emphasizing the universal appeal of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam.
She said: “These poets of all faiths and humanity have left an indelible mark, touching our hearts with joy, happiness, and passion. Their brilliance shines through, surpassing comparison and leaving a lasting impact.”
Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Md Noorunnabi Molla, highlighted the deep mutual respect shared by Kabiguru Rabindranath and the poet Nazrul.
He said that their literary masterpieces encompassed nature, love, social justice, secularism, and the essence of being Bengali. The writings of Rabindranath and Nazrul continue to inspire and uplift oppressed communities, serving as beacons of hope.
The event concluded with soul-stirring recitations of the poets' works and mesmerizing performances of their enchanting songs by the university's talented teachers and students.
