Over four hundred Muslims on Wednesday offered a special prayer for rain in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka as a heatwave continues to disrupt people's lives across Bangladesh.
At around 8am, the prayer was held under the open sky on the grounds of Sharifbagh Kamil Madrasa.
Sharifbagh Islamia Kamil Madrasa Principal Dr Mohammad Faizul Amin Sarkar led the prayer as the imam.
Dhaka TribuneAfterwards, the hundreds of Muslims supplicated for relief from the heat and for Allah's mercy in the form of rain.
Md Ashraful, a local resident who came to offer prayers, said that the weather feels suffocating and the temperature has been rising continuously for several days.
“For this, we have begged for rain from Almighty Allah… I hope that God will shower us with his mercy,” he said.
Faizul Amin Sarkar said that some villages of Dhamrai gathered together and prayed for rain.

Besides, a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping across Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet divisions, the other parts of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, and the districts of Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Bandarban.
