In a stern warning, Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Md Ahsan Habib Khan has promised rigorous measures against any candidate found violating the election code of conduct during the upcoming Cox's Bazar municipality election.
Addressing the candidates at a dialogue held at the Shahid Subhash Hall of Cox's Bazar Institute and Public Library on Saturday, Election Commissioner Habib Khan urged everyone to fully comply with the Election Commission's code of conduct.
“Stringent actions will be taken against those who do not comply,” he said.
"Now, everyone has a mobile phone with a camera and recorder. Submit your video, photo, and audio records along with evidence; we will take stringent action against the guilty," he added.
Referring to the recent cancellation of a popular candidate's nomination in the Gazipur City Corporation election due to allegations of violating the electoral code of conduct, the election commissioner said: "No matter how influential a candidate is, the Election Commission will not hesitate to take action against anyone found violating the code of conduct."
Ahsan Habib Khan highlighted that the current Election Commission has been serving for one year and three months and has successfully conducted over 700 elections during this period.
"No one could question the fairness of these elections. Thus, the Cox's Bazar municipality election will also be held beyond all sorts of controversy," he assured.
The Cox's Bazar municipality elections will be held on June 12.
