The national budget for the 2023–24 fiscal year has nothing to offer for expatriate workers.
This information was revealed by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal while he was presenting the national budget at the parliament on Thursday.
“As you know, the pace of remittance collection in proportion to the number of expatriate workers is not satisfactory due to skills shortage of our labours. To overcome this situation, we are providing skills development training to the employees in various technical courses including pre-exit orientation,” said the minister.
He added: “We have introduced Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese language education courses in Teachers' Training Colleges (TTCs). We have continued various activities including ensuring the quality of training, skills recognition and arranging employment for skilled professions.”
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in his budget speech also revealed that more than 14.9 million Bangladeshi workers are working in 176 countries across the world.
Since the government took office, foreign employment of a total of 81,47,642 workers have been trained in professional, skilled, semi-skilled, and low-skilled categories in the past twelve years, he said.
He said 73 training centres have been decentralized or expanded, he said.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday unveiled a Tk7,61,785 crore proposed national budget for the 2023–24 fiscal year in the national parliament.
