Three laborers killed in Faridpur as under-construction bridge collapses

A worker was rescued and taken to Sadarpur Hospital

Three workers have been reportedly killed in the collapse of an under-construction bridge at Sadarpur in Faridpur.

The incident took place on the bridge under construction on the Jamadar Canal in Jamadar Dangi area of Bhashanchar union of the upazila at about 12pm on Wednesday, confirmed Sadarpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ahsan Mahmud Russell.

The deceased are Antar, 20, of Kabirpur area in Faridpur Sadar, Julhas Mir, 24, of Kaijuri union in Faridpur Sadar and Jaber of Udaipur village in Bagerhat district.

According to witness Mizarnur Rahman, the collapse occurred on the east side approach of the bridge, where four workers were working. Suddenly, around 12pm, the ground gave way, burying the workers beneath it. While one worker was rescued alive, the other three could not be saved. With the assistance of the police and fire service, the bodies of the three workers were recovered.

In this incident, a worker was rescued and taken to Sadarpur Hospital.

Sadarpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Subrata Goldar said that the bodies of three workers were rescued and brought to Sadarpur police station. Further legal action will be taken.
