Two suspects linked to a gang rape of a 10-year-old schoolgirl in Nondigram upazila of Bogra have been arrested in Dhaka.
The investigating officers conducted operations in the Savar and Konabari areas of Dhaka, and apprehended them on Friday.
The arrestees are Badal Hossain, 26, and Bayezid Hossain, 19.
Both of them confessed to the assault to the police in the initial interrogation.
According to the case and local sources, the incident took place on last Tuesday in the afternoon during a storm.
The young girl, who had been collecting mangoes in a garden, was returning home when three friends, Badal Hossain, Bayezid Hossain and Saurav Hossain, intercepted her.
They forcibly took her near the banks of a pond, where they took turns in raping her and then fled.
Upon receiving the news, the girl's family brought her back home.
The girl's mother filed a case against the three at Nondigram police station that night.
The following day, the child was examined at Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH), and her statement was recorded under Section 22 in court.
Nondigram police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain, also the investigating officer of the case, said acting on a tip-off, Badal Hossain and Bayezid Hossain were arrested on Friday.
In the initial interrogation, they also revealed the name of their accomplice, Saurav Hossain, the OC added.
