4,435 CCTV cameras used to monitor GCC polls

Polling will continue from 8am to 4pm

Gazipur City Corporation election is being monitored through 4,435 CCTV cameras. 

Poll monitoring started from 8am in the control room on the fifth floor of Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon on Thursday, said Shafiqul Islam, junior communication consultant of EC IDEA project.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General Retired Ahsan Habib Khan, Election Commissioner Md Alamgir, Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana, and Election Commissioner Anisur Rahman are monitoring the election from the control room.

Shafiqul Islam said that no untoward incident has been reported in the election so far. 

A total of 466 polling booths are being monitored simultaneously by 466 CCTV cameras through 18 digital display boards. Every display is auto-rotated every 10 seconds. In this way, the polling process is being monitored by CCTV cameras in 4,435 centres.

There are 491 temporary polling booths in city elections. Polling will continue uninterrupted from 8am to 4pm.

In continuation of monitoring activities through CCTV at Rangpur and Comilla City Corporation, Jhenaidah municipality, Gaibandha-5 by-elections, now Gazipur City Corporation elections are being monitored by CCTV cameras as well.
