A case has been filed in Jamalpur against seven BNP-Jamaat leaders, including BNP Joint Secretary General Moazzem Hossain Alal and Rajshahi BNP Convener Abu Sayeed Chand, over a death threat against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Babu Bijon Kumar Chanda, general secretary of Jamalpur Awami League, filed the case with a Jamalpur court under the Law and Order Disruption (Speedy Trial) Act.
Jamalpur Awami League President and lawyer Mohammad Baki Billah is handling the case as the lawyer for the plaintiff.
Another 400-500 unidentified BNP-Jamaat activists were accused in the case.
Taking it into cognizance, Judge Sabina Yasmin of the speedy trial court directed the officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Sadar police station to record the case as an FIR (First Information Report) within 2 working days.
The threat also created panic, a fearful atmosphere and anarchy among the people of Jamalpur, the case statement reads.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, Abu Sayeed Chand issued the threat at a public rally of the metropolitan and district units of the BNP at Shibpur High School ground in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi as part of a central program of the party.
"No more 27- or 10-point demands, just one point now – send Sheikh Hasina to the grave! We will do whatever is necessary to get Sheikh Hasina to resign,” he said.
Meanwhile, a video of the threat went viral on social media, triggering a storm of protests among Awami League leaders and supporters.
A case was also filed against Abu Sayeed Chand at Puthia police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act in this regard.
Besides, another case was filed at Natore Sadar police station against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Abu Sayeed Chand.
