State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said smart energy plan is necessary to provide uninterrupted service to the consumers with utmost reliability.

He said: "If we increase the use of technology, the quality of service will automatically increase. Decisions must be made quickly. There can be no delay in the decision-making process. Due to our slow decision-making process, the service consumers are suffering."

The state minister was speaking at the virtual seminar titled "Smart Energy Planning of Bangladesh" organized by Hydrocarbon Unit on Sunday.

He said: “We are not able to provide what we want to provide properly. We are unable to provide uninterrupted supply. Environment and management should be made smart. If you can provide fast service, customer satisfaction will increase.

“We have started to work on how to provide better service. If I talk about the Dhaka-Chittagong pipeline, once the pipeline is operational it can deliver oil quickly. It is now transported using barge, which takes more time. There is fear of adulteration as well, which is not the case for pipeline supply.”

Chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation ABM Azad said: “We have been following the traditional method for so long. The oil depots located in Chittagong region still work in old method. We have started work on modernizing these as well. If our single point mooring is implemented, the cost will come down by Tk800-900 crore every year. Public service will be easy and uninterrupted.”

Buet Professor ABM Alim Al Islam presented the main article in the seminar. In the original article, he discussed issues such as management and operational perspectives, technology perspectives, developed and developing country contexts and research and development contexts in smart planning.

Director General of Hydrocarbon Unit Tahmina Yasmin chaired the virtual seminar while Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Department Md Khaeruzzaman Majumdar and Chairman of Petrobangla Janendra Nath spoke as well.
