NSU holds International Chinese Language Day photography competition

The photography competition yielded 15 winners, each of whom received various prizes and certificates in recognition of their outstanding work

In a collaborative effort to foster cultural exchange and strengthen bilateral ties, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh, the Confucius Institute at North South University (NSU), and NSU Art and Photography Club successfully organized a photography competition. 

The event, held at NSU, commenced with the welcome speech delivered by Ma Xiaoyan, the Chinese director of Confucius Institute at NSU, according to a press release issued on Thursday.

Dignitaries in attendance included Dr M Ismail Hossain, pro-vice chancellor of NSU, Yue Liwen, cultural counsellor of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh, Dr Bulbul Siddiqi, local director of Confucius Institute at NSU, Ma Xiaoyan, Chinese director of Confucius Institute at NSU, and Dr Saiful Islam, faculty advisor of NSUAPC.

Yue Liwen, cultural counsellor of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh, conveyed his congratulations to all the winners.

He encouraged them to nurture the spirit of exploration, embracing multiculturalism and the mysteries of the unknown world. 

Liwen expressed his hope that the winners would become future contributors to the deepening friendship between China and Bangladesh.

Dr M Ismail Hossain, pro-vice chancellor of NSU, emphasized the significance of organizing more such activities to facilitate meaningful dialogues and exchanges across civilizations. Recognizing the power of photography to bridge gaps and promote understanding, Dr Hossain commended the competition for its pivotal role in fostering cultural appreciation.

Ma Xiaoyan, the Chinese director of Confucius Institute at NSU, expressed her desire for the people of Bangladesh to gain a better understanding of China through the photographs showcased in the competition. 

She highlighted the organizers' intent to use this platform as a means to achieve their goal of promoting cultural awareness and mutual understanding between the two nations.

Furthermore, three representatives from the winners' circle captivated the audience with their heartfelt speeches, sharing the stories and inspirations behind their captivating photographs. 

The winners expressed their deep appreciation for the organizers' efforts in hosting this remarkable event and expressed their hopes for it to become an annual tradition.

The photography competition not only celebrated artistic expression but also symbolized the enduring friendship between China and Bangladesh. By bridging cultures through the medium of photography, the event successfully fostered a deeper connection and appreciation between the two nations.
