Uniform financial policies and financial manuals have been formulated to ensure financial discipline in public universities. The policy will be implemented from July 1.
UGC Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah gave the information in a discussion program at the UGC auditorium on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday.
Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah said that uniform financial policies and financial manuals have been formulated to ensure the financial order of public universities and to identify irregularities, errors, which will be implemented from July 1.
The chairman also said that the structure, legal and manpower of UGC established in 1973 is not sufficient to improve and control the quality of education and research in today's 168 universities. As in other countries of the world, there is a dire need to ensure the capacity, expertise, legal capacity and accountability of the UGC.
UGC Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah also said that there are 4.4 million students studying in higher education institutions, which is more than the total population of many countries in the world.
The government has taken various steps to develop this large number of working people as skilled human resources suitable for the modern labour market.
Currently, 168 universities are being run in the country under public and private management. More than 4.4 million students are studying in these higher education institutions.
The monitoring system of the commission has been strengthened to ensure transparency, accountability and good governance in the overall affairs of the university.
