Colonel Mahbub Alam on Wednesday took over the charges as the additional director general (operations) of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), succeeding Col Kamrul Hasan.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin confirmed the matter on Thursday.
He said Kamrul Hasan returned to his parent force after being promoted from colonel.
According to RAB sources, prior to becoming the RAB additional director general, Mahabub Alam was working in an intelligence agency.
