Launch operation resumed on the Daulatdia-Paturia route after 51 hours of closure due to the effect of Cyclone Mocha.
The launch operation resumed at around 9:30am on Monday.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Daulatdia Launch Terminal Traffic Inspector Aftab Hossain said to avoid the risk of accidents due to the impact of Cyclone Mocha, launch movement was halted on these two waterways from 6am on Saturday.
“From 9:30am, the launch movement started again on these two waterways. Currently, 32 launches are plying on these two routes,” he added.
Manager (Trade) Md Salauddin of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Daulatdia ferry terminal Salahuddin said that the weather is normal on the Daulatdia-Paturia route and ferry traffic was normal since Monday morning.
“Out of 18 ferries on this route, 15 small and big ferries were operating for vehicle and passenger crossing,” he added.
The very severe cyclonic storm Mocha moved North-Northeastwards and crossed fully over the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast at 6pm on Sunday, weakening into a deep land depression near Sittwe in the neighbouring country.
It is likely to move further inland and weaken gradually by precipitation (rainfall), said a Met Office bulletin.
