State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Enamur Rahman on Sunday said the very severe cyclone Mocha will cross Cox's Bazar's coastline by 2pm and will fully cross the Bangladesh coastline by 3pm.
“Low tide started in the morning and Mocha is now progressing with 65kmph wind speed and maximum wind speed near the cyclone centre is about 220kmph. So there is no possibility of tidal surge,” he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.
So far, over 750,000 people in the coastal areas have taken shelter in various shelters, the state minister said while talking to the journalist at the Secretariat in the capital.
Enamur Rahman assured that the local administration, police, coast guard and fire service are all prepared to face any situation.
“Fortunately, no damage has been reported so far,” he added.
The state minister also said Tk20 lakh, 200 tons of rice and 14 tons of biscuits have been allocated for the distressed people.
