The Ministry of Water Resources has opened a control room to tackle the impending Cyclone Mocha and has issued directives to field-level officers.
In a press release on Thursday, it stated that the contact numbers for the control rooms of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Bangladesh Water Development Board are 01318-234560 and 01775-480075, respectively.
All types of information and services related to the cyclone can be obtained through these numbers.
An advance preparatory meeting was held in the meeting room of the Ministry of Water Resources at the Secretariat.
As there is a risk of Cyclone Mocha hitting the southern, southwestern and south-eastern regions of the country, everyone at the meeting was asked to stay alert.
Local administration, public representatives and members of parliament should be informed about the steps taken to deal with the cyclone, the meeting said.
As heavy rains following the cyclone may lead to flooding, the meeting emphasized the need for taking precautionary measures with this issue in mind.
The meeting issued directives to promptly identify vulnerable areas within cyclone-prone districts, relocate residents to safe shelters and enlist the aid of the Red Crescent and fire services as necessary in response to emergency situations.
