Bhola district administration has taken three-tier measures to deal with Cyclone Mocha.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Toufiq-E-Leahi Chowdhury on Thursday said they had implemented a three-tier preparedness plan to address the cyclone. These levels encompass pre-disaster, during-disaster, and post-disaster actions.

“A total of 746 shelter centers and six Mujib Killas in seven upazilas of Bhola district has been prepared to deal with the cyclone. Apart from that, 93 medical teams are prepared and eight control rooms have been set up,” he added.

In addition, around 13,600 members of the Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) and nearly 5,000 Red Crescent volunteers are ready to tackle the situation, he noted.

He also said that currently, the district administration has Tk800,000 in cash, 350 tons of rice, 164 bundles of tin, and Tk492,000 for house reconstruction.

“However, we have also sent a demand of Tk1,500,000, some 500 bundles of tins for house construction and 5,000 packets of dry food for the people,” the DC added.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower distant cautionary signal number 1 and instead hoist distant warning signal 2 as the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved north-northwestwards and intensified into cyclonic storm Mocha over the same area.

It was centered about 1,295 km south-southwest of Chittagong port, 1,220 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,265 km south-southwest of Mongla port and 1,225 km south-southwest of Payra port at 6am on Thursday.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwesterly direction till Friday. Thereafter, it is likely to recurve gradually and move north-northwestwards.
