RobinHood The Animal Rescuer Society has demanded the amendment of the Animal Welfare Act-2009 which is currently in force in the country to prevent violence against animals and ensure the punishment of criminals.
This voluntary organization working to rescue animals, rehabilitate and create awareness among the common people made this demand in a human chain organized in front of the National Press Club on Saturday.
Robinhood The Animal Rescuer Society Chairman Afzal Khan said: "Humans have the right to live in this world, so do other animals. But many of us constantly torture animals. Even doing cruel things like killing them. There are laws in place in the country to prevent violence against animals. But since it is a non-cognizable offense, violence against animals cannot be stopped. Rather, it is increasing day by day.
"Therefore, we feel that it is necessary to amend and strengthen the Animal Welfare Act-2009 to prevent violence against animals," he added.
The human chain was attended by various volunteers including members of the rescue team of Robinhood the Animal Rescuer Society.
