When people are sweltering in intense heat in some parts of Bangladesh, the opposite was experienced by those in Panchagarh on Tuesday morning.
Fog was seen in this district since Monday night.
Panchagarh was covered in thick fog since dawn. There was also a gentle cool breeze. As a result, it felt a bit cold.
The sun peeked through the fog a couple of times for a few moments. This situation prevailed till 9am. However, the fog gradually cleared as the day progresses.
The cold in summer is being considered by many to be a freakish phenomenon.
Locals said that fog started appearing suddenly on Monday night.
Panchagarh was blanketed in fog from dawn till 9am. Many were seen stepping out in warm clothes.
Vehicles moved with their headlights on in the morning. The scene in the morning was completely like winter.
Locals said they are surprised to see such a change in the environment. Even senior citizens had never seen such fog during summer.
Those concerned are blaming rampant cutting of trees, reckless brick kiln construction, environmental pollution and insufficient rainfall as well the resultant climate change.
Sumaiya Smriti, a resident of the Dokropara area, said: 'Today's (Tuesday) morning scene was completely like winter. Suddenly I was surprised to see such a form of nature. But today's morning was worth enjoying.”
Shahjahan Ali of the Kayetpara area said: “We were burning in the intense heat a few days ago. We can't go out in the sun. However, the mild weather from dawn to morning has brought some relief.”
Salim Hossain, a student of Futkibari High School, said: “Every morning I have to go to the teacher's house. I haven't seen fog for a long time. I saw fog in the morning. I know that there is fog on winter days but I did not understand why there is fog during summer.”
Alauddin Ahmed, an elderly, said: "I have never seen such fog in summer before."
Russel Shah, in charge of Tentulia Weather Observatory, said: "Although it looks like fog, it is actually dust particles. During the day, the dust on the earth's surface flies into the sky and turns into water vapour at night, which is above ground. It looks like fog. Such weather prevails for climate change due to environmental pollution.”
The minimum temperature was recorded at 19.4°C at 9am.
The maximum temperature on Monday was 29.8°C.
