The Dhaka Central Jail authorities have rejected the allegations of BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi that CCTV cameras have been installed in the opposition leader's cells to monitor their activities.
When asked about Rizvi's allegations, Dhaka Central Jail Senior Jail Superintendent Subhash Kumar Ghosh said: “There are CCTV cameras in the corridor but not inside cells. There is no basis for such a claim.”
Department of Prison AIG (Administration) Moin Uddin Bhuiyan said: "There is a CCTV camera outside the jail but there is no reason to have a CCTV camera inside the prison rooms.”
“Why Rizvi Ahmed is complaining will be known if you talk to the jail authorities where Rizvi was,” he added.
Earlier in the day, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that CCTV cameras have been installed in the cells of opposition leaders by a group of prison officers to monitor their activities.
He said: “Torture has reached a new level in jails too. CCTV cameras have been installed in the cells of opposition leaders. If anyone comes to meet us there, he will end up in Kashimpur jail. Greedy prison officials are doing this just to please the prime minister and get a promotion.”
The senior BNP leader made the remarks at an event in Dhaka on Saturday.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was released on bail on April 25 after being imprisoned for about four and a half months.
