A bus driver died falling off the bus after being hit by a pickup van that lost control at Moghbazar flyover under Hatirjheel police station in the capital Friday morning.
The deceased is Shahidul Islam Babu, 35, son of late Abdul Gafur of Nandail upazila of Mymensingh.
Shahidul's associates rescued him with serious injuries and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 6:30am. The doctor on duty declared him dead after examination.
Ruhul Amin, sub inspector (SI) of Hatirjheel police station, confirmed the matter. He said the body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for post-mortem.
He said that the actual driver of the bus was Shahidul. However, a friend of his was driving the bus while the helper was sleeping at the back.
He also said that efforts are underway to identify which vehicle had hit the bus.
