Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has been arrested in another case filed in the capital's Paltan police station on charges of sabotage in 2018.
Motijheel DB police Sub Inspector Farman Ali applied for a 10-day remand in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury of Dhaka on Thursday.
After the hearing, the court granted the application to show the arrest and fixed May 7 for remand hearing, said general registration officer of Paltan police station Sub Inspector Shah Alam.
On September 7, 2021, he was arrested in a case of anti-terrorism act at Bhatara police station. After his arrest, he was remanded several times.
Meanwhile, the case of Paltan police station that showed the arrest said that despite the ban before the collection of nomination papers in the National Assembly elections, 8,000-10,000 activists of BNP-Jamaat first took out a procession with banners and festoons. They blocked the VIP road in Naya Paltan and stopped the traffic by marching and show-downing.
When the police stopped it, they threw cocktail bombs along with bricks. In this regard, Sub Inspector Somen Barua filed a case under the Explosive Substances Act at Paltan police station. The investigating officer requested to arrest Golam Parwar as a suspect in the case.
