Pirganj police Officer-in-charge (OC) Zakir Hossain has been stand-released as a video of him taking bribe went viral on social media.
He has been attached to district police line on the orders of the superintendent of police on Monday, said district Superintendent of Police Ferdous Ali Chowdhury.
According to the complaints of the police and locals, there have been numerous complaints against Zakir Hossain as OC of Pirganj police station, including illegally extracting sand from rivers, canals and banks, cooperation in gambling operations at various places, and taking large sums of bribes from drug dealers.
Besides, in the past, the local people have complained in writing to the police IG and higher officials about various irregularities, including taking people to the police station and releasing them with money.
Recently, a video of Pirganj police station OC Zakir Hossain taking a large amount of money as bribe from a sand trader spread on social media.
According to a senior police officer, an investigation committee has been formed in this regard.
For the sake of investigation, he has been released on stand and attached in the police line. After getting the final report, legal action will be taken against him.
Superintendent of Police Ferdous Ali Chowdhury said that Rangpur District Police is following zero tolerance policy against corruption and irregularities. Primarily, the allegations against OC Zakir Hossain were found to be true.
