8 motorcyclists killed in separate road crashes on Eid day

Three motorcyclists were killed respectively in Bogra and Netrokona districts and one in Dhaka and Gazipur respectively

Eight motorcyclists were killed in separate road accidents in four districts on Saturday, on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. 

Three motorcyclists were killed in Bogra and Netrokona districts respectively and one in Dhaka and Gazipur respectively. 

In Dhaka, a 10th-grade student was killed and his friend was injured after a bus ran over their motorcycle at Rampura on Saturday morning. 

The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan, 17, son of Abul Kashem and a student of Khilgaon High School.

The accident took place near Hatirjheel in Rampura, opposite the BTV Centre.

Hatirjheel police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sujan Dev said that the accident took place when the Gaibandha-bound passenger bus ‘Saikat Shaon Paribahan' hit the motorcycle riding by the two friends and ran over it, leaving the duo injured. 

The injured boys were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared Mehedi dead.

Confirming the matter, DMCH Police Outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Masud Mia said the body of the deceased was kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy. 

Mehedi's friend Shakil, who was injured in the accident, has received primary treatment in the emergency department of DMCH. 

Police seized the bus but the driver fled away. 

In Netrokona, three teenagers were killed and two were injured in a collision between two motorcycles in Kalmakanda upazila.

The accident happened around 2:30pm on Saturday.

The deceased are Abu Bakar, 15, son of Shahjahan of Goatla village of Lengura union of the upazila, Masum Mia, 16, son of Mannach Mia of the same village and Suman Mia, 15, son of Iman Ali of Gobindpur village of Kharnai union.

According to the police and locals, Abu Bakar and Masum were going to the border area on a motorcycle from Gowatala village on the day of Eid. Their motorcycle collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in Boubazar area, leaving two people dead on the spot and three riders on the other motorcycle seriously injured. 

Later, locals rescued them and sent them to the nearby Upazila Health Complex where another injured succumbed to his injuries.

In Bogra, three people were killed and four others, including a housewife, were injured in two separate accidents involving motorcycles on Saturday in Nondigram upazila.

One accident was caused by a head-on collision between two motorcycles in the Kathom Beragari area of the upazila.

Another accident took place when a motorcycle was hit by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the Chakolma area.

The deceased were identified as hotel businessman Imran Hossain, 28, son of Nantu Miah from Damgara village in Bogra's Nondigram upazila, Abidar Hossain, 24, son of Golam Hossain from Gaibandha Sadar's Purba Para, and Bulbul Hossain, 25, son of Yakub Ali from Nondigram's Kalyannagar area.

Besides, cases have been filed against eight motorcyclists in different parts of the upazila due to reckless driving.

In Gazipur, a young man was killed and another injured in an accident while riding a motorcycle in Sreepur upazila on Saturday.

The accident took place in the Phulbaria area of the Sreepur-Kaliakoir road. 

Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Fazal Md Nasim confirmed the accident.

The deceased is motorcycle rider Jibon Hossain, 22, son of Billal Hossain of Piruzali village of Joydebpur in the district. 

The injured is the motorcyclist's friend who was injured in the incident.
