The price of chicken and beef in the capital's kitchen markets jumped by Tk50 per kilogram ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

During a visit at a kitchen market in Mirpur-1 on Friday, it was found that the prices of beef, broiler chicken, and cock chicken have increased. Prices of salad vegetables like cucumber, tomato, carrot and lemon have also gone up.

In such a situation of inflation, mixed reactions have been observed among the general public.

Broiler chicken prices were Tk210-220 last week and have now increased to Tk260-265 per kg.

Last week, the price of cock chicken was Tk330 per kg, which has now increased to Tk380-390 per kg.

The price of beef has also increased by Tk50 per kg, with Tk750 meat now selling for Tk800 per kg.

Goat meat is being sold at Tk1,100 per kg.

Traders stated that the demand for chicken has increased as Eid approaches, leading to a rise in meat prices.

Sheikh Md Aynal, a government employee, expressed frustration and said: “Everything is so expensive. I bought two chickens at Tk390 per kg whereas it was Tk300 a few days ago. I came to the market with Tk1,500 and now I have to return home after buying only chicken. How am I going to feed my children?”

Surprisingly, the price of ilish has comparatively decreased. Last week, 500g ilish was Tk800 per kg, and 1kg Ilish was Tk1,850 per kg. This week, 950g ilish is priced at Tk1,300 and 850g ilish at Tk900 per kg.

Md Nasir Uddin, who came to buy fish, meat and vegetables, said: "I found the price of fish to be reasonable. But the price of meat is high. And the price of salad vegetables is much higher."
