State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that due to a severe heatwave across Bangladesh, the demand for electricity has increased.
“As a result loadshedding has to be done in many parts of the country. Common people, especially children and the elderly, are suffering a lot. We express our sincere concerns and sorrow for the untold suffering,” Nasrul Hamid said on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday.
He said: "This year, as summer, irrigation season and Ramadan began together, we had already assumed that the demand for electricity would reach the highest level. We have also made a record by generating the highest electricity in the history of Bangladesh.”
But the current heatwave, which has broken the temperature record of the last 50 years, has increased the demand for electricity much more than expected. As a result loadshedding has to be done in many parts of the country, said the state minister.
He said: “We express our sincere sympathy and sorrow for this unexpected suffering. At the same time, I would like to inform everyone that the Power Division is working hard to resolve the situation. Very soon the comfortable atmosphere will return again.”
The state minister also thanked the customers for their patience.
