Two construction workers died after inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank in Moulvibazar's Juri upazila on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Shaheen Mia, 22, son of Abdul Khalik at Bardhamai village of Purbajuri union of the upazila and Kamrul Islam, 25, son of Moktar Ali of Montail village in Jaifarnagar Union.
At first, worker Shaheen entered the septic tank to open the shutter of the tank.
Getting no response from the tank, Kamrul also entered the tank to rescue him and did not come back.
Kulaura Fire Service team leader Shankar Roy said: "On receiving the information, we went to the spot and rescued them unconscious and sent them to the hospital.”
Dhaka TribuneLater, duty doctors declared the duo dead.
They may have died due to toxic gas in the safety tank, said rhe fire service official.
West Juri Union Parishad Chairman Md Anfar Ali also confirmed the matter.
“The two workers had died before they were brought to the hospital. I assume they died after inhaling toxic gas,” Juri Upazila Health Project Medical Officer Dr Nishat Jahan said while confirming the matter.
Juri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the death of the two people in the safety tank and said: “The bodies have been sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy.'
