Despite the fire at New Super Market being declared under control by authorities, the blaze was still not fully extinguished even after over 14 hours.
Fire Service and Civil Defence members who are working at the site and inside the market, are reportedly falling ill due to the extreme heat and smoke.
The second and third floors of the market have been destroyed the most by the massive fire, and traders were seen trying to collect whatever they can from the gutted shops.
The devastating fire that broke out at the three-storey market early Saturday destroyed over 1,000 shops.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Brig Gen Md Main Uddin earlier said the fire was brought under control but that it will take more time to completely extinguish the fire.
Currently, the fire service is carrying out damping work, said the director.
Firefighters were also trying to break through the roof of the three-storey market and enter it that way in an attempt to extinguish the flame.
The fire started on the second floor of New Supermarket, and the members of the Border Guard Bangladesh, fire service, police, Rapid Action Battalion, army, air force and Dhaka Wasa's water-carrying vehicles worked on the spot.
The traders blamed the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) for the annihilating fire, saying that a foot over-bridge demolition work by the city corporation caused the blaze.
The DSCC bushed off the claim through a press release on Saturday evening claiming that a vested group is spreading misinformation by attempting to link the two incidents.
