A massive fire broke out at New Supermarket in the capital on Saturday morning

Twenty eight units of fire service are working to bring the fire under control.

According to fire service, the fire broke out around 5:40am. 

Some 18 firefighting units rushed there immediately to bring the flame under control after they received the information of fire at around 5:40am, according to sources.

Later, ten more units joined the work.

However, the fire could not be doused until the filing of this report around 9:10am.

On information, traders went there and are trying to get the goods out of their shops. 

Teams of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force joined forces with the fire service.

Earlier, Bangladesh deployed 12 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh, a paramilitary force, to help bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

Besides, no casualties were reported.

Smoke engulfed the entire area as shopkeepers struggled to save their goods from the fire.

The New Supermarket fire incident occurred 11 days after the Bangabazar fire that gutted thousands of shops during Eid season.
