The term “minority” should be discarded, State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan has said.
“Many think of themselves as minorities. This term needs to be discarded,” he said at a program held in Gazipur on Thursday.
The state minister added: “When Bangladesh gained independence, everyone including Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians sacrificed their lives to free this country. We are all Bangladeshis, and we are united as Bangalis.”
He added that people from all religions have equal rights in Bangladesh. “As Bangalis, we want to live with our rights. This is our theory.”
The state minister later urged the countrymen to be more responsible when using social media.
“Everyone must be alert while putting up statuses by mobile phones. No posts should be made that may cause any kind of harm to religious harmony,” the state minister said.
