The Indian police and forest department officials have alleged the kidnapping of four Indians in the Sundarbans. They claimed that four Indian honey gatherers were abducted but two of them managed to escape from the abductors.
Later, according to the information given by them, they seized six boats of the kidnappers by raiding. They think these boats belong to Bangladeshis.
Animesh Mondal, member of Gosaba district council of West Bengal, said Anil Mistry, Gobordhan Mondal, Montu Sarkar and one other resident of Satjelia went to collect honey. They were collecting honey along the Andharamuni canal when they were suddenly attacked on Tuesday.
Mentioning that the attackers are believed to be Bangladeshis, he said: "These honey gatherers, residents of Satjelia, were severely beaten and all the honey was taken from them. Then their hands and feet were tied and left in the boat.”
“The two somehow escaped. They complained to the forest department staff. Soon after, forest personnel and police started searching for the pirates with speed boats,” added Animesh.
Stephen Jones, additional officer of India's “Sundarban Tiger Project”, said that an allegation of attacks on honey collectors in the Sundarbans has been received.
A search has been initiated based on the complaint. Six boats have already been searched and seized. It is assumed that the boats belong to Bangladeshis. A search is on for the other boat, he added.
