Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has announced that specific funds will be allocated in the announced budget every year to stand by the victims of any disaster in the Dhaka South City Corporation area.
He made the announcement in the 19th board meeting of the second council of the corporation at the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Auditorium of DSCC head office in the capital's Nagar Bhabhan area on Tuesday afternoon.
The mayor said: “Dhaka is a populous city. As a result of unplanned urbanization, we observe accidents happening frequently. Many accidents happen especially due to fire. But due to the lack of financial resources in this sector, we cannot stand by the victims in this humanitarian disaster.”
“However, every year we keep discretionary funds in the budget and specific allocations in different sectors. In this way, we will present the 'Humanitarian Assistance Policy in Disaster Response and Management-1429' to the meeting,” he added.
Mayor Taposh further said: “If approved, under this policy, we will keep financial resources for dealing with disasters in the budget of each year. In this way, we can stand by the victims in any disaster.”
