The Shop Owners Association of Bangabazar has backtracked on a decision to set up temporary shops at the burnt Bangabazar market in the capital.

The leaders of the association said that the final decision will be made after a discussion with Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.

The president of the association, Helal Uddin, said traders will meet with the mayor on Saturday.

The list of victims will be submitted there, added Helal Uddin.

He also said that Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman will hand over compensation to the affected traders after collecting all the money.

Salman F Rahman on Thursday said that traders and shop owners of Dhaka's Bangabazar Market which was burned to the ground on April 4, can operate their businesses temporarily from Saturday at the site and adjacent area so that they can recover some of the losses.

At least 5,000 businessmen were reportedly affected by the fire at the Bangabazar market. The fire caused an estimated loss of Tk2,000 crore.
