Police: Releasing journalist Samsuzzaman might disrupt investigation

He had been brought o Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Thursday after being arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act

Abu Ansar, the investigating officer of the case and Inspector of Ramna Model police station, requested a Dhaka court to keep Prothom Alo reporter Samsuzzaman Shams in custody.

"If the accused Shamsuzzaman is released on bail, the investigation may be disturbed," he added.

The journalist had been brought o Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Thursday after being arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act at the capital's Ramna Model police station.

Earlier, Samsuzzaman's lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmakar applied for bail in this case.

A person named Advocate Abdul Moshiur Malek filed this case at the Ramna police station of the capital Wednesday night.

Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman, reporter Samsuzzaman, an unnamed assistant cameraman, and unnamed others were sued early Thursday.

Samsuzzamn was picked up from his Savar home for interrogation early Wednesday.

Later, he was shown arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Jubo League leader Syed Mohammad Golam Kibria filed the case at Tejgaon police station in the early hours of Wednesday.

Tejgaon Police Inspector (Investigation) Shah Alam confirmed the case.
