A female doctor of Singair Upazila Health Complex Hospital in Manikganj became furious after a local journalist addressed her as “apa” (sister).
The local journalist published the video of the doctor's conversation on social media which went viral.
The name of the doctor is Nirupama Pal. She is working as an officer in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the civil surgeon of Manikganj said he is also embarrassed by such behaviour of the doctor. Stating that the matter has been settled, Dr Md Moazzem Ali Chowdhury said that instructions have been given so that such incidents do not repeat in the future.
The 23-second video posted on social media shows the doctor being interviewed at the hospital by local journalist Biplab Shanto.
In the clip, the journalist is seen asking the doctor: “What is your name, apa?” The doctor gets furious and says: “Nirupama Pal, and why are you addressing me as apa?”
Another person then asks her if she should be addressed as madam, to which the doctor agrees. Then when the journalist asks her why she should be called madam, the doctor complains that he is harassing her.
According to an inquiry, the doctor was accused of giving wrong information on the injury certificates of people wounded in a recent fight at Singair. In this regard on March 23 afternoon, some local journalists went to the hospital to get her statement.
Dr Nirupama Pal could not be reached for comments. However, her husband said that she was mentally disturbed by the viral video.
