Dhaka University's Spartans' Communication Club recently concluded its flagship business case competition, Bakeman's Presents Sellsation 2023, at the Ascott Palace in the capital.

The competition concluded on Saturday.

Leading up to the competition, the club conducted roadshows across universities in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet, reads a press release issued on Friday.

Hundreds of teams from all over the nation registered for the competition.

Among them, only 30 progressed to the second round (Instant case), held in a very engaging atmosphere at the University of Dhaka premises.

Sellsation found its finalists for this year as six teams came through following the third round (Surprise) where the teams made their sales pitches to the judges.

The teams, as well as the judges, have expressed their contentment regarding how the event was organized on social media.

As the six remaining teams battled it out in the final round, Team Khichuri - featuring Mohtasim Bin Habib, Shubhashish Chakraborty, Mashrif Hasan Adib, and Abir Ershad - came out as the champions, bagging Tk1,00,000 in rewards.

SINBAD N CO, comprising of Md Ahad Siddique, Md Asifur Rahman Asif, Mahammad Shish Ahsan and Faiyaz Abrar, were the first runners-up, taking home Tk60,000.

Team Everest, which included Abdullah Al Faiaz, Noushin Nuri, and Wasif Mahmud, took home the prize of Tk40,000 for becoming the second runners-up.

For the final round, the competing teams were tasked with a case where the brand in question, despite promising superior quality and taste, needed help to navigate underwhelming sales trends.

The contenders had to develop a pathway covering the appropriate touchpoints that would help enhance the brand equity, which would translate to higher sales through the distribution channels to be considered, allowing the brand to become the market leader.

Shafiqul Islam Tushar, the chief marketing officer at Akij Bakers Ltd, Paromita Quarishi, the head of Marketing at Perfetti van Melle and Md Khaled Hassan (Turjoy), head of Primary Market Services at LankaBangla Investments Limited, were the judges for the grand finale.

Md Tanvir Alam Himel, assistant professor, Department of Marketing, and an advisor for the club, also graced the event by making an appearance at the venue for the final.

The competition was cosponsored by Daraz and Agrani Bank Limited.

Dhaka Tribune was the print media partner for the third edition of the business case competition, the nation's largest-selling competition.
