No iftar parties at Ganabhaban this ramadan

Decision taken as part of government’s austerity measures amid weakening global growth prospects

Update : 23 Mar 2023, 09:29 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided not to host any iftar parties at her official residence, Ganabhaban, in the month of Ramadan this year.

The prime minister herself would not have extravagant iftars, the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims, as part of the government's austerity measures amid weakening global growth prospects, PM's Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Zahid Tushad told the media on Thursday.

The prime minister usually holds separate iftar parties with orphans, freedom fighters, dignitaries, politicians and people from different walks of life at Ganabhaban every Ramadan.
