Complainant absent at hearing for alleged meat misconduct by Sultan's Dine

Probe body dismissed allegation that the restaurant was using meat from other animals

Update : 13 Mar 2023, 04:25 PM

The complainant, who claimed Sultan's Dine restaurant's Gulshan branch was not using mutton in their food, was absent during the hearing organized by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP).

The hearing was held at the head office of the directorate on Monday.

Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman said there have been no breaches of consumer law regarding the restaurant's environmental conditions.

The accusations that the popular restaurant chain used meat from animals other than goats for their Kacchi Biryani were recommended to be dismissed by the probe body of the DNCRP.

In this regard, Sultan's Dine authorities stated that they typically use smaller goats, weighing between seven to nine kilograms -- resulting in leaner bones compared to regular-sized goats.

Despite the representatives from Sultan's Dine being present at the hearing, the officials of the DNCRP could not manage to contact the complainant, said Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman said.

His phone number was also switched off, he added.

Additionally, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority has taken samples of the restaurant's meat and is currently testing them, AHM Shafiquzzaman added.
